The Rocky Mountain
Bird Observatory (RMBO) was founded in 1988 to address the conservation needs
of birds in the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains. RMBO employs a broad spectrum
of tactics toward this end, including international partnerships and projects.
Given that most birds of the Rocky Mountains and Great Plains are migratory,
often spending more of their lives on the winter grounds than on the breeding
grounds, RMBO recognizes the critical importance of adequate non-breeding
habitats for the conservation of Neotropical migrant birds of our region.
Mexico is by far the single most important country for over-wintering
Neotropical migrant birds from the western U.S. Conserving habitats for
Neotropical migrants in Mexico will also serve the needs of the many resident
and endemic bird species this mega-diverse country.
